Classified as a historic building, this cathedral is the largest edifice of this type outside Russia. Inspired by the Muscovite style, it has a very richly decorated interior with many icons, murals and carved woodwork as well as an iconostasis of embossed metal. The primary vocation of this site being a place of worship, certain rules must be respected. Entrance to the cathedral may be refused if these principles are not respected. Men will not be admitted bare-chested. For women mini-skirts are not allowed. St Nicolas' cathedral was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century under the patronage of the last Tsar, Nicolas II, and his mother, Empress Marie Feodorovna. The cathedral is the most beautiful religious edifice of its type outside Russia, and the most perfect representation of Russian religious art abroad. Located in central Nice at only 800 meters from the central station.
